Welcome to MMO couples

Every one who is familiar with MMOG's (massive multiplayer online games), knows the stories of people who are so addicted to playing these games that it costs them their real life friendships and relationships. There are also stories though of people who meet in a MMOG and fall in love, like my boyfriend and I. 'MMO couples' is a tribute to our lovestory, but also an invitation to share your story and experiences with others.

Share your story!

Have you met your dream man or dream woman in a MMOG and would you like to share your story on my blog? Then feel free to mail me your text and if possible an ingame screenshot (.jpg) of the two of you. You can find my emailaddress in my profile.

I am also very interested in how other people succesfully combine gaming and being in a relationship.

My wife hated WOW. We met while I was in the closed beta and playing like a fiend! My bachelor Saturdays consisted of about 16 hours of straight play. We met and really hit it off. But to her, the PC was the mistress. At one point it got so bad that she pushed me so far that I destroyed my Collector’s Edition WOW set. =0( Yeah regret that fight…. And it cost us $50 to buy the game again once things cooled down anyhow.

After a good while, she figured out that this really is not just a stupid game but my actual pastime I do to relax at night, and that the other toons were actually people just like us and not just computer controlled NPCs. I really was being social! Who knew! So she laid off of WoW and just let it go. I would only play after she went to bed so I could spend time with her, but it was a good compromise.

We decided to upgrade my PC and she got my old one. With that she would come in and play something while I played as well. She enjoyed the goofy simple games like Super Granny and something where she ran a restaurant and had to click on countless things to make burgers or whatever. Soon she found the game FATE which is really like a kiddy-version of Diablo. She finished FATE soon enough and didn’t have anything to play…..then the request heard around the world! “Can you show me how to play WoW?” I almost fell down!

She rolled a druid and started playing. She got the controls down pretty well and I stood over her shoulder pointing stuff out and being her personal OnStar for WoW. She got up to level 10 and really enjoyed it, but it was not as much fun since we could not play together. The next day we went out and bought her a copy of WoW and I transferred her toon over to her own account. I rolled a hunter alt to play with her druid and quickly leveled him to catch her.

Our first instance was Deadmines. We got all the way to the boat dock and were having a great time. We were about to go under the first overhang to climb up onto the boat when she hit Tab to target the nearest enemy….it just so happened to be ABOVE US! Not catching it, she let a spell fly and here they came! She pulled about 10 mobs down on us and wiped us. We laughed it off and ran back in. Sure enough she did it again the very next time. She cried for 15 minutes about wiping the group…now remember this is a group that she believed to be just NPCs not too long ago! Once I calmed her down, I made her a macro to target my target and we went on to destroy VC from there.

Since then she had rerolled a warlock because she just was not feeling the shape shifting vibe, and is now in her mid 30s and climbing fast.
